Who lives in Vernon?
While Vernon seems to have the reputaion of a Retirement Town, if we look at the results from the 2006 Census, we see some interesting and somewhat surprising information.
The largest sector of the community is within the 45-49 year age bracket;
There are more people ages 15- 19 years than 60-64 years of age;
There are more people under the age of 10 than over the age of 80;
There are more people between the ages of 30 and 40 than 60 and 70;
The overall median age is 44.5 ( I'm not thrilled to be on the upper side of this number!)
To be fair - our median age is higher than the BC median.. by almost 4 years (40.8) but that does not make us over the hill! The percentage of our population which is over the age of 15 = 84.4% compared to the 83.5 for BC as a whole.
