Vernon's Official Community Plan
Vernon's Official Community Plan has been undergoing a comprehensive review process since 2006 with hundreds of opportunities for public input, from a community wide survey, focus groups, visioning exercises, surveys on favourite places and building forums to name a few.
Last Fall, the Planning department took three land use plans to the public and the result was a clear preference to develop "Neighbourhood Centres" (67%) Once ratified, this plan will govern the way Vernon Real Estate develops. So... what might Vernon look like in the future?
Vernon looks to create three new neighbourhood centres, all predicated on existing or planned commercial concentrations. In addition, a greater concentration and focus of multiple family dwellings like townhouses and apartments will be favoured in designated neighbourhood centres to create densities that support transit. Additionally, specific areas for small lot single and two family dwellings have been identified to target the need for family housing in the City of Vernon.
